Doula at Home
How do we choose which doula to work with?

At Fiat Birth Doula, we know that choosing a doula is a very personal decision. Feel free to do a consultation with any or all of us. Choose the doula who is the best fit for your family. The doula you choose to work with will be the one you do all meetings with and will attend your birth.

Do you have backups?

Yes! While it is rare that a backup is needed, another doula from Fiat would be our first choice to attend your birth in the event that your doula is unable to be there. We also have a long list of other local doulas who we can contact if one of us is unavailable. We never want a family to go unsupported!

What are your interactions with medical staff like?

We are part of a team along with your medical staff. We strive to provide support in conjunction with your provider and any medical staff. We believe we are all there to assist you in the best birth experience possible. We will not intervene in medical procedures, but we will help you to advocate for yourself if the need arises.

Pregnant

Do you perform any physical examinations?

We do not perform any physical examinations. Doulas are there for emotional, physical, spiritual, and informational support. We will help to provide you with evidence-based information so that, together with your provider, you can make the best decisions for you and your baby.

Birth Doula with Couple

Does a doula replace the father or other birth partner?

No, a doula is there to support both the mother and the father, or any other support person you may have at your birth. Dad has a unique role that cannot be replaced by anyone else. I can teach dads more effective ways to help mom, step in when he is feeling tired, ensure he has adequate food and drink, take pictures for him so his hands are free, and provide emotional support. Doulas help dads as much as moms!

Do you bring anything with you to the birth?

Yes! We each have our own preferences for what we bring to births. From labor combs to rebozos, we come with a variety of tools to meet your needs. Ask each of us individually what tools we like to bring to births.
